A Commitment to Expository Preaching

It is a pastor's duty to faithfully administer the Word of God to His people. A good preacher reads the sermon text from the pulpit, explains its meaning, and then helps God's people see how they must respond to what they have heard in obedient faith. This is called expository preaching.

Expository preaching is an important Reformed tradition that is born of the conviction that the Bible is God's inerrant Word.  Its purpose is not to entertain people or give man a platform for his own opinions.  It is a disciplined, prayerful effort to let the voice of God be heard in and through the exposition and proclamation of the Holy Scriptures.  When that is achieved, the result is powerful and deeply edifying to those who attend upon the preached word with faith.

In an era in which there is much foolish and man-centered speech pouring from the pulpits in our land, we at Monroe Presbyterian Church are humbly commited to the simple, faithful proclamation of God's glorious Word.
