THE FIVE SOLAS OF THE PROTESTANT REFORMATION

Sola Scriptura: Scripture Alone

The foundation of Christian faith and practice is Scripture alone.

Sola Gratia: Grace Alone

Salvation is not something we earn, but of the undeserved grace of God alone.

Sola Fide: Faith Alone

Our justification before God is not through the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Solus Christus: Christ Alone

We are saved by the merits, and come to God through the mediation, of Jesus Christ alone.

Soli Deo Gloria: Glory of God Alone

The true Gospel gives all the glory in our salvation to God and God alone.

The Five Solas are five Latin phrases that emerged during the Protestant Reformation of the Sixteenth Century to summarize the Reformers' theological convictions about the essentials of Christianity.
